"In the end" was a personal project made to make use of footage from a trip to Gotland. The goal was to aesthetically integrate 2d into the real world. Although the project was never entirely completed, the result was still a personal step forwards in terms of 2d animation.
The "alien" ball became the starting point of this project. It was constructed using several gradients simulating diffusion, reflections etc. on its surface. I then animated it and tracked it into my footage. For immerson i made the horizon light up when the ball comes into screen, also notice the shadows and heatwaves from the ball.
The choice of music was highly deliberate, adding to the alien and sci-fi feel of the video.
For the last scene i wanted to have the ball fly quickly above the ocean, but as i didn't have any footage of the ocean from this angle, i animated it using Blender instead!
